Inventory reporting is a reconciliation workflow, not a single accuracy percentage. Define the expected population, observation window, matching rule and exception owner before comparing counts.

Freeze the expected population
Record the system snapshot, item or packaging level, location scope and time at which expected inventory is established. Keep the source of the expected list explicit so an investigation can distinguish a data-timing issue from an observation issue.
02 / FIELD NOTE
Define the observation method
Document the reader path, operator action, tag placement, time window and rules for repeated, missing, unexpected or out-of-scope identities. Validate the method with representative materials, density and normal operating conditions.
03 / FIELD NOTE
Match using stated rules
Specify how an observed identity maps to an expected record, which packaging relationships are accepted and how late or duplicate observations are handled. Do not reconcile at one hierarchy level while presenting the result as though it described another.

Classify variance by reason
Separate absent identities, unexpected identities, duplicates, location conflicts, master-data mismatches and process exceptions. Assign each reason to the team that can investigate and retain the evidence needed to close it.

Keep adjustment controls separate
A report can propose a reconciliation action, but it should not silently change inventory. Route proposed quantity, location or status changes through the approved adjustment workflow and preserve the relationship to the observed evidence.

Report the scope with the result
Show the population, matched and unmatched records, observation timing, exclusions, exceptions and recovery status. Keep any project-specific threshold or outcome tied to its tested configuration rather than presenting a universal accuracy promise.
