01 / FIELD NOTE

Keep the decision tied to the operating context.

Carrucci Shoes was required by retail customers to apply RFID tags to goods and chose to use that requirement to improve its own inventory and shipment workflow.

RFID tags were added to the boxes of shoes produced by the company. Handheld checks supported receiving and shipping verification so the team could confirm product identity before goods left the warehouse.

The same item identity supported inventory visibility for e-commerce operations. The source case describes earlier counting for one or two shoe styles as taking half a workday, which made a full count difficult to sustain.

The source case reports reduced labor costs, improved e-commerce inventory visibility and fewer shipping errors after implementation. These are reported case observations, not a general result promise; the item, tag placement, reader setup and operating process must be tested in the target workflow.
