Delta Airlines needed a more dependable way to keep assets used in aircraft Wi-Fi maintenance available in the right location while upgrade windows were limited.
RFID labels were attached to maintenance assets and associated with their operating location. As assets moved to aircraft, the location record was updated so the team could maintain a current view of where the items were assigned.
Handheld RFID checks supported ad-hoc inventory verification for a specific storage location. The workflow also included a find step for locating an individual asset when maintenance or upgrade work had to be prepared in a short window.
The source case reports that a location count that previously took hours with barcode handling could be reduced to minutes with RFID. That is a reported case result, not a general performance promise: tag construction, placement, reader setup, item density and operating procedure must be tested in the target environment.
