Weir Oil and Gas needed a less cumbersome way to identify large equipment and retrieve inspection information when assets were distributed across service centers and customer locations.
RFID tags were attached to equipment and iron. A handheld check could identify the asset and support retrieval of its inspection certificate without requiring an operator to read an exposed serial number and search for a paper or computer record.
The source case also describes mobile checks that could capture information when the device was offline and pass the collected list on when connectivity returned. The public case keeps this as a reported workflow detail rather than a general software capability claim.
The source case reports that an inventory count took less than two hours with the RFID workflow, compared with three people working eight hours in the earlier manual process. This is a reported case comparison, not a universal time or accuracy guarantee; asset, tag, reader and service conditions must be tested before rollout.
02 / CHALLENGE
Identify distributed equipment and retrieve inspection records without manual transcription.
- Large equipment across service locations
- Hard-to-reach serial numbers
- Inspection and service-history lookup
03 / WORKFLOW
Join the physical asset to a field-ready inspection record.
- RFID tags on equipment and iron
- Handheld identification at service locations
- Inspection certificate retrieval and offline capture
04 / REPORTED RESULT
The source reports a change from three people for eight hours to less than two hours.
- Reported manual-count comparison
- Digital capture with less keying
- No universal time or accuracy guarantee
